Before You 03:34
I feel my heart beating faster When I’m next to you nothing else matters But I know this all ends in disaster I know the air gets thinner further up the ladder Like they lost my luggage now I’m wearing someone else’s clothes Like my shirt’s on backwards and the seams are all exposed You’ve got me all kinds of inside out I can’t remember who I was Before you Try to keep you at a distance Channel all my fears into resistance But no matter what the instance I just can't shake our coexistence Like they tossed my bedroom like the flipped my dresser drawers I know it’s mine But I don’t recognize it any more You’ve got me all kinds of inside out I can’t remember who I was Before you You’ve got me all kinds of inside out I can’t remember who I was Before you

Past Present 03:18
We’re stuck in the in between Not quite the past or present The present here is frozen in time And it’s easy to forget the future There’s no place for me here I’m just the past to you now There was never a future for me In your universe anyhow It’s easy to fall into the past We’re all just creatures of comfort But you can’t see me for who I am When you know me as someone else There’s no place for me here I’m just the past to you now There was never a future for me In your universe anyhow There’s no place for me here I’m just the past to you now There was never a future for me In your universe anyhow We're stuck in the in between Not quite the past or present We’re just different galaxies And my heart has found the future There’s no place for me here I’m just the past to you now There was never a future for me In your universe anyhow

Hello again To my favorite distraction Hours go by in the blink of an eye and I’m frozen Like a heavy medication Elevating then fading away There’s nothing else or afterwards til after Now filling empty hours becomes routine Til I can slip away and shut the world out long enough for a second with you When I’m with you I see new colors Brighter and purer than anything I’ve Ever seen before In hues intensifying Saturating then fading away There’s nothing else or afterwards til after Now filling empty hours becomes routine Til I can slip away and shut the world out long enough for a second with you For a second with you For a second with you For a second with you For a second with you There’s nothing else or afterwards til after Now filling empty hours becomes routine Til I can slip away and shut the world out long enough for a second with you There’s nothing else or afterwards til after Now filling empty hours becomes routine Til I can slip away and shut the world out long enough for a second with you

White Noise 03:07
Saw the future from the mountainside The promise of forever in your eyes But now I’m at the center of it all But these walls won’t let me break their hold When I wake up it’s all just white noise And I miss you more than you will ever know As I’m staring out the window Watching these dreams dissipate Maybe in another time another place Things would have been so different If we didn’t tempt fate Never thought I’d miss these busy streets The way the light shined on simple things Now it’s all gone dark on these dreams And I miss you more than you will ever know As I’m staring out the window Watching these dreams dissipate Maybe in another time another place Things would have been so different If we didn’t tempt fate And now there’s no path back to the shadow of these dreams And now there’s no path back to the shadow of these dreams And now there’s no path back to the shadow of these dreams And now there’s no path back to the shadow of these dreams And I miss you more than you will ever know As I’m staring out the window Watching these dreams dissipate Maybe in another time another place Things would have been so different If we didn’t tempt fate And I miss you more than you will ever know As I’m staring out the window Watching these dreams dissipate Maybe in another time another place Things would have been so different If we didn’t tempt fate

about

Proving that quarantine can be a boon for bedroom recording projects, LA indie-pop duo the Francine Odysseys return with "My Favorite Distraction," a collection of thoughtful, detailed songs about the joys and discomforts of intimacy. The opening single "Before You" combines melancholy guitar jangle with an urgent, driving tempo and anthemic girl/boy harmonies in the chorus. The three additional tunes include touches of pastoral psychedelia, nautical soundscapes and a taste of the New Order-ish pop fans will recall from the band's last release.

Vocalist and principal lyricist Gretchen Devault's warm, clear voice invokes the wide open spaces of her adopted California, while guitarist Ian Patrick brings understated craftsmanship and a broad sonic palette to this outing.
